Saarbrücken Train Station is situated in the north-western part of Saarbrücken’s (quite small) city centre, within easy walking distance from most important places in the city. The entrance is from Bahnhofsvorplatz. A few metres from the station there is the beginning of Bahnhofstrasse (Train Station Street), one of the prime pedestrian streets in Saarbrücken with good hotels, restaurants, and shops. Other streets and places near Saarbrücken Train Station include St. Johanner Strasse, Trierer Strasse, Kaiserstrasse, and Viktoriastrasse. It is now also possible to access the train station from the north (Rodenhof district).
The train station is named Saarbrücken Hauptbahnhof in German, but sometimes also referred to as Eurobahnhof Saarbrücken.
Saarbrücken is the capital of Saarland, a small Bundesland next to the French border in Germany.
Saarbrücken Train Station is on the high-speed rail corridor that links southern Germany with north-eastern France and Paris. There are several pairs of ICE or TGV trains daily from Saarbrücken to Paris on one side and Mannheim on the other. From Mannheim the trains usually continue to either Frankfurt or Stuttgart and sometimes beyond. Long distance destinations include cities as far as Salzburg or Dresden.
Besides the long distance trains there are also many regional and local services; most of the local trains either start or terminate at Saarbrücken Train Station.
