Hamburg-Dammtor is one of the 3 big railway stations in Hamburg. The other two are Hamburg Hauptbahnhof (Central Station) and Hamburg-Altona. Dammtor station is on the main rail corridor between the other two big stations.
Dammtor Station is located in Hamburg city centre, near the northern border of the old town. Actually, the name of the place and the station, Dammtor, is derived from a former city gate. In today’s Hamburg, Dammtor is ideally located in the central point among the individual parts of the city: there is the old town (Altstadt) in the south, St. Pauli district (famous for its nightlife) in the west, and Hamburg University in the north. Dammtor Train Station is also very close to Hamburg Congress Centre and Hamburg State Opera (Staatsoper).
Streets and other places near Hamburg Dammtor Train Station include Theodor-Heuss-Platz (just on the north-eastern side of the station), Marseiller Strasse (in the south-west, near the main entrance), Dammtordamm (a name quite easy to remember), and Alsterglacis (the main street going to Kennedybrücke), and Stephansplatz (the nearest metro station).
