Hannover Hauptbahnhof (Main Train Station) is located in Hannover city centre, between the districts Mitte (Centre) and Oststadt (East Town). It is possible to enter the train station from both sides:
On both sides, the area surrounding Hannover Train Station is very lively, with plenty of shops, restaurants, and hotels. Many streets, especially on the Mitte side, are pedestrian only.
You can get to the main train station by vast majority of Hannover tram lines. There is one tram stop on the north-eastern side – Hauptbahnhof stop in Berliner Allee – and another tram stop in Mitte – named Kröpcke. It takes less than 3 minutes to get into the train station’s building from either stop.
Hannover is an important junction of long distance trains, with connections to most big cities in north Germany and major cities in the rest of the country and abroad. The main train line between the Rhein-Ruhr metropolitan area and Berlin crosses the north-south route between Hamburg and München in Hannover. Many of the trains are high speed (ICE).
Hannover Train Station is naturally also the main junction of the Hannover S-Bahn trains, with access to all 8 lines. Lines S5 and S8 connect Hannover Train Station with Hannover Airport.
