Frankfurt am Main Hauptbahnhof is the main train station in Frankfurt and one of the busiest in Germany, with about 350,000 passengers and some 1,700-1,800 trains per day. It is served by all types of trains, from S-Bahn (Frankfurt local trains) and regional trains to long distance trains and the German ICE high speed trains.
The station is huge and it occupies a large block in the very centre of Frankfurt, just north of the river and about 5-7 minutes walk from Willy-Brandt-Platz. The main entrance and tram stops are located in the street named Am Hauptbahnhof (literally “by the main station”), which actually feels like an elongated and slightly curved plaza. This street continues as Düsseldorfer Strasse north of the station and as Baseler Strasse in the south. It is a very busy place and a real gateway to Frankfurt.
The stop’s name for local transport, U-Bahn (metro), and S-Bahn (local trains) is Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof or just Hauptbahnhof.
There are many hotels in nearby streets. The prime location for hotels is especially in the streets from the train station to the east (towards Willy-Brandt-Platz and the inner city) – Kaiser Strasse (probably the highest concentration of hotels), Münchener Strasse (the one with trams), or Taunusstrasse. Another good place for hotels near Frankfurt Train Station is between the station and the river – for example Wiesenhüttenplatz / Wiesenhüttenstrasse, Wilhelm-Leuschner-Strasse, or Untermainkai (the embankment).
