Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof (Hbf.) is the central train station for Düsseldorf, the capital of North-Rhine Westphalia in Germany. It gets about 250,000 passengers per day and it among the busiest in Germany. It is served by all kinds of trains, including the high speed ICE and Thalys trains, InterCity or EuroCity trains, night trains, regional trains, and S-Bahn.
The S-Bahn is shared by several big cities due to the extremely high population density and short distances in the region. It is therefore named Rhein-Ruhr S-Bahn, rather than Düsseldorf S-Bahn, and covers cities including also Cologne, Wuppertal, Duisburg, Essen, Bochum, Dortmund, and many smaller towns. Düsseldorf Train Station is probably the most important junction in the whole Rhein-Ruhr S-Bahn network, thanks to its central location (relative to the other cities) and access to the highest number of lines (S1, S6, S8, S11, S28, and S68).
Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof is located at Konrad-Adenauer-Platz in the city centre (Stadt-Mitte). Streets near the train station include Karlstrasse, Immermannstrasse, Bismarckstrasse, and Steinstrasse. Other nearby places include Worringer Platz, Kölner Strasse, Stresemannplatz, Mintropstrasse, and Mintropplatz. It is served by several U-Bahn (metro) and tram lines; the stop’s name is Düsseldorf Hbf.
