Duisburg Hauptbahnhof is located in the eastern part of Duisburg inner city, at the eastern end of Königstrasse, the biggest shopping street in the city. The main entrance to the station is from the street named Mercatorstrasse (south of the train station) or Saarstrasse (to the north). The train station is within 5 minutes walk from König-Heinrich-Platz, Immanuel-Kant-Park, and Düsseldorfer Strasse.
Duisburg Train Station is served by both long-distance and regional trains.
Long distance services include high-speed ICE connections, hourly to major cities like Berlin, Cologne, or Frankfurt, and less frequently to many more destinations. There are also Thalys trains to Brussels and Paris (Gare du Nord), and also classical IC or EC trains to other cities.
Regional trains include mostly RE and RB class trains by Deutsche Bahn and also the Rhein-Ruhr S-Bahn (namely its lines S1 and S2), with very frequent services to nearby cities like Düsseldorf, Essen, Bochum, Dortmund, or Gelsenkirchen.
